These Pictures Aren’t Real but Boy Are They Fun To Look At

0 Comments 31 October 2010

Yes, it was ll the craze and more, back in the late 1800s and early 1900s, to fake ghost photography. Nowadays it’s even easier. I was just in New Orleans only a month ago when I practiced some fake ghost photography of my own inside the red room of Muriel’s. I didn’t need Photoshop, just a long shutter speed and some dim lighting. Some of the pictures were convincing, however these that we have displayed for your own eager eyes are not even close. In fact, they are quite embarassing — but guess what — people believed this shit, which is why they have remained in the lexicon of photographic silliness since.

I will admit, that while I am posting these as a farcical expose of human endeavor, that I believe these have also notched some influences in some of our more modern and sophisticated photographers such as Joel Peter Witkin.

Enjoy.
