Like of the Week: Shark-Inspired Shopping
SHARK WEEK has arrived! If you’re a fan of this annual week-long Discovery Channel event as much as I am then you’ve probably been glued to your TV paying homage to this often misunderstood, monster of a fish. Seeing as this joyous time only rolls around only once a year, I thought it might be nice to give a fashion nod to our giant, aquatic, sharp-toothed friends of the sea.
Surprisingly I was able to find a plethora of kick-ass items featuring our favorite extra-large man-eater at none other than the Discovery Channel Store. Items range from totes, mugs and tees. There’s even a comfy, cozy, plushy pair of Great White Shark Slippers to add spunk to your footwear collection (you know you want them!).
And for that shark lover who just can’t get enough, there’s this “ferociously” (I couldn’t help myself) fierce computer keyboard that’s sure to spark up a conversation. Long Live Shark Week!
Dislike of the Week: Flashing Fly Lashes
What happens when you mix flies legs with eyelashes? Why, you get FLYLASHES, of course. Yup, you heard me right.
This unsightly look comes from talented abstract artist, Jessica Harrison, who has created false eyelashes from the tiny legs of our common household friend, the fly.
Harrison, whose art has often been known to make some squirm, has pushed the envelope yet again for her latest exhibit, coincidentally titled Flylashes.
Just in case you were wondering, no flies were hurt in the construction of these eye-opening accessories because Harrison opted to use only deceased flies (quite the humanitarian, if you ask me). These disassembled wings were then glued on and around the eye, giving us…flylashes. Fascinating, far-fetched and freaky, don’t you think? Now, who wants a pair?
