Like of the Week: Olympia Le-Tan’s Combines Literature and Fashion.
Calling all bookworms! For all those literary lovers out there, there’s now a way to profess your fondness of the written word with these stylishly unisex totes, created by Olympia Le-Tan.
They come in a variety of classic covers and titles from favorites such as Lolita, Moby Dick, Wuthering Heights and many more. These “Book Bags” are featured in a collection coincidentally called “You Can’t Judge a Book by its Cover” and are quickly becoming all the rage with book lovers everywhere.
Le-Tan’s started out by recreating first edition copies of her favorite works of fiction before expanding her line to include a total of 21 books. She stuck with the classics for both their vintage and nostalgic appeal.
Not only is it the perfect way to start a convo with the cutie at the coffee shop who always seems to have their nose in a book, but it also lets people know just how prolific you truly are.
Dislike of the Week: Biocouture’s Bacterial Clothing
When you think of moldy, germy bacteria, there are most likely a number of things that come to mind but wearable bacteria probably isn’t one of them…until now.
That’s right, U.K. pioneer designer, Suzanne Lee, a Senior researcher at the School of Fashion & Textiles, has been able to create actual clothing from a combination of (get this!) green tea, bacteria and yeast! How she was able to come up with this concoction is beyond me but everyone’s got to do something in they’re spare time, I guess.
This prompted her to create Biocouture, basically a culmination of experiments in growing laboratory wardrobes where these three ingredients are fused together resulting in “thin, wet sheets of bacterial cellulose that can be molded to a dress form.” Cause doesn’t that just sound exactly like something you want on your body!? The delicate material can also be colored with vegetable dye to create a range of colors if you like your bacteria festive.
Now, is it me or does this look eerily like the human skin coat that psycho made in Silence of the Lambs?! (Shudder)
There’s no denying it’s fascinating, but freaky nonetheless.
