This started a long time ago when kids hung cowered around an old tube radio, darkness enveloping their home. The show begins and it’s the only way to truly experience horror — at least in a safe distance. Relic Radio has tracked down, what seems to be, every horror show ever made, featuring these special productions in their series entitled, The Horror!.
A shrieking and cackle.
A cat named Satan.
Peter Lorre.
Vincent Price.
I love horror movies. I love anything to do with horror. I just do but discovering Relic Radio and exploring their podcasts wasn’t immediately easy to grasp. How could it be? Some of the tapes sound warped and the recordings, some dating back to 1935, are pocked with pops and crackles. But then the story seeps through and the imagination picks the pieces, developing the image. It’s better than watching an old horror film because the rubber toy surrogates for real life monsters are replaced by the real thing — in your imagination, of course. This was an art form back in the day, just as theater and film are now. They perfected horror to a level that, frankly, hasn’t been achieved since — can’t be achieved. What we see in our minds will always be more horrifying than what we see on the screen.
If you’re looking for a good podcast and some genuinely good horror stories, acted out by top professionals such as Peter Lorre and Vincent Price, check out Relic Radio’s The Horror!.
